Child Minding
A childminder’s role is many and varied and can be described in a number of ways. Gone are the days when childminders were seen as uneducated, low paid babysitters who were paid to keep an eye on the children whilst their parents spent a few hours at work. The world has changed and with it the need for good quality childcare. Parents are no longer content to pay someone to look after their child simply because they appear motherly and seem to like playing with children. Parents now, quite rightly, express a wish to find a highly qualified, organised person who has the right skills to not only nurture their child but to educate and discipline them.
This course will provide you with all the underpinning knowledge to make a decision as to whether a career as a child minder is the right one for you..

Early Years Foundation
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) became effective in all early years settings from September 2008. From this date it will be compulsory for all providers of early years and child care settings to deliver the EYFS framework.
This course provides guidance for practitioners on meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and it aims to provide useful advice and detailed information for supporting children’s learning and development.
The course covers child development, relationships and environment and offers useful hints on planning and resourcing together with ‘reflective practitioner’ exercises throughout which test the knowledge and understanding of the learner.
The principles of the EYFS, which guide the work of all early years practitioners, are grouped into four themes these being:
-
A unique child
-
Positive relationships
-
Enabling environments
-
Learning and development
Each of these themes are broken down into commitments and covered in detail to guide practitioners through the framework and offer assistance on how to deliver the framework effectively. The course also encourages practitioners to reflect on their own practice and consider for themselves ways of enhancing their provision taking into account the principles of the EYFS.
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and practitioners play a major role in the impact of their early years which mould their future opportunities. This course will ensure that practitioners deliver the EYFS effectively because children really do matter.
