Supporting People with Asperger's Syndrome
Aimed at people working in the health and social care sectors, this training course has been developed in association with British Institute of Learning Disabilities and Voyage Care. This e-learning training course defines Asperger's Syndrome, explores how it fits into the autism spectrum and identifies how it affects the way people think and behave. It looks at possible causes of the condition and emphasises the importance of an early diagnosis. Learners will find out about the research into autism and the theories surrounding the conditions associated with it. They will also look at the different models of disability and be able to decide which one is more suitable for planning support for people with Asperger's. The course goes on to look at some of the common difficulties that people with Asperger's Syndrome experience, for example in terms of communication and memory, and to consider techniques for helping individuals cope with these on a day-to-day basis.
